Canon: Transformers: IDW

Age: Somewhere between 4-6 million

Canon/AU/CR AU: Canon

Canon Point: Issue #14 after Chromedome finds out about the Phase Sixers and Overlord escapes

World Information:

Cybertron: The homeworld most Transformers originate from. During the war it was destroyed by Megatron’s mad quest for power, and was rendered uninhabitable for several thousand years until it was revived by Optimus Prime and his matrix.

Senate: The top dogs of Cybertron. It’s because of these guys that the members of the lower castes were horribly treated and ignored. They were the government of Cybertron and made all the laws and regulations that kept it in order. Their problem was that they took everything way too far and this eventually lead to the Decepticon uprising and, later, the Autobot/Decepticon war.

Functionalism: The idea behind Functionalism is that the form you were born with was the form that decided your entire life. If you were unfortunate enough to be born as, say, a driller, you were probably destined to work down in the mines. Ones entire social status depended on it, and quite a few were not all that lucky.

The Institute: The Institute was said to be a laboratory that was designed for rewriting and tampering with Cybertronian brains. This isn’t completely accurate, as the name was meant to be misleading. Instead of only one place meant for brainwashing, there were actually several.

Decepticon Registration act: The Decepticon Registration act was put in place under the promise that if 10,000 Decepticons registered themselves, they would be formally recognized as a political party. The Decepticon Registration Act was really a ploy by Senator Proteus as a way to target Decepticons and brainwash them. The act failed though, as the Decepticons didn’t trust the Senate, which drove Proteus to take more extreme measures to earn their trust. It continued to fail, and the Senate eventually gave up on it.

The War: The war between the Autobots and the Decepticons lasted a good 4 million years, and it was because of this war that Cybertronians are blacklisted from the Galactic Council. Cybertron became inhabitable because of the ceaseless fighting and the war ended up spreading across the galaxy to other worlds, leaving a trail of giant metal corpses behind them. Chromedome spent much of the war using his Mnemosurgeon skills brainwashing and mind probing both Autobots and Decepticons alike.

NAILs: Non-Aligned Indigenous Life-forms are Cybertronians who did not take part in the Autobot/Decepticon war. After the war ended and Cybertron was restored, they all returned to Cybertron under the leadership of Metalhawk.

Knights of Cybertron: The Knights of Cybertron are considered a myth, and are considered to be the ‘first’ Cybertronians. Said to be the original ‘Children of Primus’ not much is known of them, if they even exist. They’re said to have made a paradise out of Cybertron several million years ago, then left to spread enlightenment throughout the universe. Rodimus found a map within the Matrix of Leadership, and he believed that it would lead to Cyberutopia, the legendary new home of the Knights. Rodimus then decided that he should seek out the Knights and convinced a large crew of unfortunates to follow him.

Lost Light: The Lost Light is the ship that some 200 Cybertronians have boarded in search of the Knights of Cybertron. The ship’s captain is Rodimus and all sorts of wacky shenanigans occur on it. The majority of the more prominent crew members have serious emotional or psychological issues.

Personality:

Upon meeting Chromedome, he strikes one as a very friendly and personable bot. He gets along with others well enough and has quite a few drinking buddies to relax with. Others note that he and Rewind are nearly inseparable, and that it’d be weird to have Chromedome somewhere and not Rewind. That he’s Brainstorm’s only friend, and Prowl’s closest is also notable. Deep down, Chromedome is fairly cynical, sarcastic, a talented liar, and world-weary. Chromedome isn’t a temperamental mech per say, but he does reach his limits quickly and can be easily annoyed when others push their boundaries with him. While appearing to be good-natured, he is neither optimistic or upbeat, he relies on Rewind to be those. Like most Cybertronians during the war, especially the Autobot and Decepticon ones, Chromedome has seen his fair share of fighting. He’s been shot at, sliced, and many other things, at this point he’s not afraid of injury or pain. Chromedome’s bravery and fighting skill is such that he can throw himself in the thick of things without much worry for himself. Maybe he even enjoys it a little too, who knows.

Chromedome is a very intelligent bot, as most Mnemosurgeons have to be. He is one of the best at what he does, and he takes his skills seriously. Over the course of the war, Chromedome has come to hate his own abilities, and nearly quit them several times. He had done things during the war that he bitterly regrets, and many of those things regularly haunt him. This often leads to long periods of moping. He had believed, in his youth, that what he was doing was for the greater good. Maybe it was, but he wondered if it was really worth the effect it had on his mental well-being. Being intelligent doesn’t mean that he doesn’t make bad decisions. Quite the contrary, he makes bad decisions all the time. Chromedome's anxiety can often lead him to act without thinking, and tends to let certain things slip if he doesn’t deem them important enough. At the same time though, he is extremely attentive to details within his work, almost impressively so. While injecting, he notices things that others wouldn’t notice. When you’re in someone else’s mind, the tiniest little thing could tell a number of important stories.

Rewind is the most important person in his life. When Chromedome met Rewind he was at the lowest point of his life, and was mere minutes away from having his life ended for him. It was the sight of someone who was in even more pain than he was, but carrying on anyway that snapped Chromedome out of it enough to want to continue living. Chromedome was immediately charmed by Rewind’s optimism, kindness, and all around determination from the beginning. It didn’t take them long before they were very close friends. However, Chromedome had never fully explained certain aspects about his past, and would like to keep it that way. He wanted Rewind to continue thinking well of him. Chromedome wanted to keep these secrets to himself so much, that he willingly attacked Prowl and wiped his memories when Prowl hinted at telling Rewind the truth.

When it comes to Prowl, Chromedome’s relationship with him is... complicated. They used to be friends and partners a very long time before the war, before Chromedome got into mnemosurgery in fact. The war changed both of them, and they did start growing apart a bit, though they did continue being friends. It was Prowl who brought Chromedome’s abilities to the attention of Zeta Prime, and it was Zeta Prime who had Chromedome use his abilities the way he did. After the war Prowl wanted Chromedome to continue using his skills for the greater good, and Chromedome refused, saying that he promised Rewind he would stop. The war was over, he could stop now. He wanted to stop. Prowl refused to take no for answer.

Abilities, Weaknesses, and Power Limitations:

Mnemosurgey: Mnemosurgery is the science of hacking into another Cybertronian’s mind. Chromedome is considered to be among the best, and as such can do things like examining and erasing memories, reading the last few minutes of someone’s life after they’ve died, and entering someone’s mindscape to talk with them. He uses these abilities by using the needles at the tips of his fingers to inject into a bot’s head to do what he needs to do. During the war, Chromedome used these abilities for less-than-honourable reasons, though he had believed them to be justified at the time.

Transformation: Chromedome can transform into a Cybertronian truck.

Holomatter: Many Autobots have the ability to use a solid-light projection that creates an avatar they can use to interact on alien worlds.

Wartime experience: Chromedome has been around, and he knows how to use a weapon. While he wasn’t necessarily on the front lines, he has done his share of fighting.

This vast, empty land felt almost symbolic, like it was the mindscape of someone’s tormented and lonely spark. Chromedome knew that this was real though, there were several clues here and there. So if this was real, how did he get here? The last thing he remembered was being aboard the Lost Light. Did something terrible happen and he got stranded? Maybe he couldn’t remember because he had his mind tampered with... but that seemed unlikely. There weren’t many who could outdo him at his own work. Then again, there only needed to be one.

“Rewind!”

That would always be the first name he called for. The only answer he got back was the howling of the lonely wind. Heh, ‘howling of the lonely wind’, when did he get so dramatic? Chromedome scaled a nearby rock to get a better view of his surroundings. What a view it was, in all its bleak, grey, and lifeless glory. Chromedome suddenly hoped that Rewind wasn’t out here after all. Unless Rewind is stuck at Megatron’s mercy, then any place he was was probably better than here. It didn’t feel like a dangerous place, per say, but it did feel completely and totally hopeless. It was not a nice place, but at least Chromedome felt he could survive it if he tried.

He wasn’t low on energon, and he didn’t seem to be injured in any way, so he transformed and started driving in any random direction. The stars were unfamiliar, but Chromedome kept an eye on them anyway he could at least to make sure he wasn’t driving around in circles. Any and all attempts to make contact with others ended in a failure. Was he truly alone out here? Surely someone had to inhabit this planet. If there wasn’t? Well, he was pretty much out of luck, wasn’t he? A layer of gloom seemed to fall over his spark as he drove along. Some deep, selfish part of him wished that Rewind was here after all.

Okay.

So.

I seem to be missing my friend, and I would really like to get him back. His name is Rewind, and he’s been missing for a lot longer than I’m comfortable with. That means I haven’t seen him since yesterday and he’s not answering the link. It’s probably too early to panic just yet, but I’d like to know if anyone has seen him.

A description should help: He’s a small guy, mostly black and white with a little red, and he likes to record people. He also turns into a flash drive.

[Okay so he has that information out there, and hopefully someone will have seen him. He’s not going to panic, that won’t do him any good. Still, his treacherous imagination is going through all the terrible things his friend could be going through at this very moment. Stranded? Injured? Kidnapped? The last was endless. Stay calm Chromedome, there has to be a reason for this.

When he finds Rewind, he’s not sure if he’ll punch the stupid mech or hug him.
